News Round-Up: Cuts and Consequences

Cuts to the HOME program create another hurdle to rebuilding in New Orleans after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The cut will cause communities to distribute money only to a select few areas, leaving other without resources even as development lags behind need.

The cost of housing is far exceeding income in their state, so Utah advocates held a press conference in the state capitol to urge focus on affordable housing.

The 1980s and 1990s brought “one strike” policies to HUD, which requires assisted residents and tenants to lose their assistance if a family member commits a crime. One strike and you’re out in Wisconsin means a mother and her daughters losing their home.
