Last week, the Woodstock Independent covered the release of housing statistics by the U.S. Census Bureau. While Woodstock, Illinois has a higher than average amount of rental housing stock, housing advocates note that there is still a shortage of affordable housing in the area. As NLIHC’s Out of Reach report shows, the fair market rent is well beyond what area renters can afford.
NLIHC explores more data from the Census Bureau in its first edition of Housing Spotlight, which focuses on American Community Survey data on housing. We find that the housing problems faced by American renters only got worse during the Great Recession.
