News Round-Up: The Chopping Block

Last week, we asked you if housing programs in your community were feeling the effects of the economic downturn.

In Chicago, city leaders have called on Illinois’ Congressional delegation to maintain HUD funding. Citing NLIHC’s budget charts, this article notes that the Chicago Housing Authority could see an up to 27% cut in its operating and capital budget if some of the proposed cuts to HUD programs are approved.

Another article on the topic notes that while many things, such as the mortgage interest deduction, have come up as possible targets of cuts, cuts to public housing and other HUD programs face a much more immediate threat.
